SUSQUEHANNA VALLEY CHILD
DEVELOPMENT CENTER Susquehanna Valley Child Development Center (SVCDC) is a relatively
new childcare facility that opened on July 7, 2008. The center is conveniently located on Lows Road, between Bloomsburg and
Berwick, just off Interstate 80 in South Center Township. SVCDC is in the Susquehanna Valley Healthcare Complex which includes
Susquehanna Valley Medical Specialties; Susquehanna Surgery Center; Northeast Ear, Nose and Throat; Susquehanna Valley Women’s
Center; Geisinger Cardiology, Neurology and Sleep Lab; Geisinger Laboratory Services and Columbia Ancillary Services. SVCDC is currently accepting child enrollment for children
ages 6 weeks To 15 years. The mission of the new childcare center is to provide a comprehensive, high-quality, preschool program
and childcare services to the families of the community. The center strives to provide a safe and welcoming environment, caring
and supportive staff and a concern for all aspects of child development throughout its infant, toddler, preschool and school-age
programs. With the use of Creative Curriculum
in all classrooms, SVCDC can ensure your child’s individual development skills are met to both the parents and teachers’
satisfaction. More specifically, the preschool and wrap-around kindergarten classrooms follow a balanced literacy curriculum
as well the many techniques of a responsive classroom. In addition, the staff implements the newly-accepted and preferred
method of teaching handwriting, Handwriting Without Tears. Weekly themed lessons are geared toward benefiting the children,
in the sense of meeting their needs, interests and the world around them. For their school-age summer camp, the staff is currently
planning a high-energy and fun curriculum filled with fieldtrips and hands-on, minds-on learning experiences. As SVCDC pushes towards continual program enhancement, they
found themselves at a Keystone Star 2 rating as of early 2009. Every day the staff works hard toward its
goal of being a Keystone Star 3 accreditation very soon. SVCDC’s ultimate goal is to be a Keystone Star 4 Center with
NAEYC (National Association for the Education of Young Children) accreditation. The childcare directors Denise Baney and Kelly Eads, lead the SVDCD childcare team of
15 strong. Amongst SVCDC’s staff are a few with graduate level credits toward a master’s degree, several bachelor
degrees in education-related fields, many currently working toward their bachelor’s degree in education-related fields
and some Child Development Associates (CDAs). To keep staff moving in a positive progression, many trainings and educational
opportunities are offered for professional growth.SVCDC
is also pleased to offer unique features to their facility, such as a family room and emergency care services. Parents are
encouraged to visit during the day to spend time with their child, and nursing mothers are encouraged to use the private room
for their nursing needs. The center is available for emergency purposes as well. If your babysitter is sick or you have a
family emergency, just give a call and, pending space, as well as a proof of updated immunization, they can take care of your
child(ren) for the day.SVCDC thanks all
the families, children, and local supporters in the community for their continued faithfulness and loyalty to the childcare
programs, trust and confidence in the staff and loyalty and devotion to their children’s development. SVCDC
is honored to be amongst all the great childcare facilities in this area that offer the best service to families.
